Complex training

Complex training video of me performing a deadlift at 90% of 1RM followed immediately by 10 box jumps. This is known as a ‘complex’ and works on motor unit recruitment. The jumps are made more explosive as more fast twitch muscle fibres have been recruited from the heavy deadlifts allowing them to activate in the jumps.

It is a good idea when using complex training to make sure the power exercise that follows the strength exercise is a biomechanically similar exercise. For example, a heavy squat followed by squat jumps or a bench press followed by clap push ups. A poor example would be a heavy squat followed by medicine ball slams.
